Uganda Gov’t Allocates Shs. 30 Billion for Innovative Students in Science & Technology!
Uganda’s budding innovations industry got a major boost when the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) announced that it had been allocated Shs 30 billion to support young innovators whose programs have stalled due to lack of funding.
Prof. Charles Kwesiga, the executive director of UIRI told the media after a three day science, technology and innovations retreat that of the Shs43billion that the ministry of science and technology received in the new financial year, Shs 30 billion would be for funding innovations.
The Minister for Science and Technology Sam Elioda said that the ministry was giving attention to innovations as a way of providing employment to youth who have groundbreaking innovations but lack funding. He cited the example of a student of Makerere who created a tear gas canister.
